Early life and family
On October 24, 1986, Drake was born in Toronto, Canada. Dennis Graham, his father, is an African American who once played drums for Jerry Lee Lewis. His mother, Sandi Graham (née Sher), is a white Canadian who worked as an English teacher and florist. Drake has a younger sister named Stephanie and an elder brother named Dennis Jr.
Drake’s parents divorced when he was five years old; after which he lived with his mother in Toronto’s affluent Forest Hill neighbourhood. He was a minor hockey player with the Weston Red Wings when he was younger. He attended Forrest Hill Collegiate Institute for high school where he began acting and writing songs for a local Toronto hip hop group called “The Ruff Ryders”.

In 2006, Drake’s debut mixtape, Room for Improvement, was released, marking the beginning of his musical career. He signed with Lil Wayne’s record label Young Money Entertainment in June 2009 and released his second mixtape, Comeback Season, that November. His debut studio album Thank Me Later was released in 2010 and featured the hit single “Find Your Love”.
Drake’s second album, Take Care, was released in 2011 and featured the singles “Headlines” and “Take Care”. “Started from the Bottom” and “Hold On, We’re Going Home” were two of the songs from his third album Nothing Was the Same, which was released in 2013. Drake’s fourth album Views was released in 2016 and featured the singles “Hotline Bling” and “One Dance”.
Drake has won four Grammy Awards, six American Music Awards, three Billboard Music Awards, and two Juno Awards. He has also been named by Forbes as one of hip-hop’s richest artists.
